After living in the desert for a while, we noticed that between the dry air and heat, our skin was really taking a beating. We grew tired of having our skin feel tight after bathing so we started looking at making our own soap. After extensive study, we found that commercial soaps really aren't soaps at all; they are detergents. The glycerin, which is a humectant (draws moisture to the skin), is removed from the "soap" and sold for other upscale products. No wonder our skin felt so tight!
The making of soap consists of mixing oils & lye which causes a chemical reaction called saponification. After this reaction occurs, the glycerin remains in the soap but none of the lye. After a long time of using handmade products, our skin was much more supple and soft. We also found that the better ingredients we used to make soap, the better it turns out. Makes sense, right? Now we use only the best products, including raw Shea butter in every soap.
Since our skin is our biggest organ, it's important to know that chemicals from body products can reach your blood stream in 26 seconds!! That's fast, so make sure you're giving your skin what it needs ~ less chemicals and more good stuff.
Just give it a try ~ we know once you try handmade products, you'll never go back to commercial products again!
